EVAN THOMAS

Evan Thomas is a journalist, historian, and author. He was a writer, correspondent, and editor for 33 years at Time and Newsweek, including ten years (1986-96) as Washington bureau chief at Newsweek. He hired Jon Meacham during his time there and became a mentor to him. He wrote more than one hundred cover stories and won a National Magazine Award in 1999. Thomas is the author of nine books, The Wise Men: Six Friends and the World They Made (1986) (with Walter Isaacson), The Man to See (1991), The Very Best Men (1995), Robert Kennedy: His Life (2000), John Paul Jones: Sailor, Hero, Father of the American Navy (2003), Sea of Thunder: Four Commanders and the Last Great Naval Campaign 1941-1945 (2006), The War Lovers (2010), Ike’s Bluff (2012), and Being Nixon: A Man Divided (2015). The author of dozens of book reviews for The New York Times and The Washington Post, Thomas has taught writing and journalism at Harvard and Princeton, where, from 2007 to 2014, he was Ferris Professor of Journalism.
